Epic on Ebay
With the new EpicUK Tyranid list getting some local use, I'll add some more specific details to help build a Nid army.
If Nids are your preferred army, there is good
The bad news is that the GW Epic Tyranids are loooong
out of production
They are still available on Ebay
but some of the prices can get a bit silly (especially for the smaller plastic infantry bugs).
The good news is that there are some others that have stepped up to make Tyranid like armies available!
have made some excellent proxies for the smaller bugs!
The cheapest and easiest solution is to use Dark Realm Miniatures Skyth
as proxies for the Nids (ask Olly for a review as he has some for his Nid army). They have enough variants to cover all the smaller bugs and several of the medium sized beasties (Carnifexes etc).
The larger Bio-titans are actually quite easy to make using GW 40K miniatures (Termgants as Heirodules, Tyranid Warriors as Hydraphant/Dominatrix, plastic Tyranid Gargoyle as a Harridan etc). A lot of the plastic Tyranid bits are available on Ebay from bits sellers like Hoard o Bits
, Blackdagger Games
and Player's Cove
This gives you some lee way to get creative if you like.
Epic scale Raveners are easily made using 40K Tyranid Rippers
40K Spore Mines which make perfect proxies for Epic scale Spore Mines.
I had my bases custom made by Litko
. This a quite a slow process but it's cheap and you can get the shape you want (a nice touch to customise your army). I attach my plastic miniatures to the acrylic bases using Tamiya Putty (from Stanbridges or Perth Hobby Center) or superglue.
That should do for now. I'll link up new useful information as I find it. Anyone else is welcome to post up useful Epic links as they find them
