Last weekend featured the biggest event on the WA gaming calendar in the form of WestGamer's "Feat of Arms!"
Now in its second year, Feat of Arms 2011 drew a monster horde of gamers from across the CBD and regional areas of WA, many competing in the variety of tournaments that were featured this year, and many just happy to saturate themselves in a healthy dose of general hobby action. The combined single weekend event this year created an absolutely supercharged atmosphere, with there really being no better place to be if you're a miniature gamer. To everyone who came along and was a part of Feat of Arms this year - we hope you enjoyed yourselves!
2011 Ultimate Warhammer 40,000 report! This year was the
5th annual WestGamer Ultimate tournaments for both Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000, with the 40K qualifying pool in particular being the most hotly contested that we have EVER seen! 16 elite 40K commanders descended on the battlefields of the 41st millenium in a no holds barred struggle to determine who is the Ultimate Champion of the 2011 40K tournament season!
And the winners this year were:
ULTIMATE WARHAMMER 40,000 CHAMPION
MATT "SHADOWLORD" (Imperial Guard)
Runner-up - Peter Platell (Imperial Guard)
Ultimate General:
1st place - Kyle Sweet (Blood Angels)
Runner-up - Matt "Shadowlord" (Imperial Guard)
Ultimate Sportsman:
1st place - Peter Platell (Imperial Guard)
Runner-up - Chris Poli (Space Marines)
Ultimate Painter:
1st place - Oliver Paun (Grey Knights)
Runner-up - Aaron Wright (Blood Angels)
Ultimate Hobbyist:
1st place - Peter Platell (Imperial Guard)
Matt has earned himself a solid place in WA 40K tournament history by being the 1st general to take out the top award for Ultimate 40K 3 times in a row - but not without a serious fight! A very special mention and congratulations has to go out also to Ultimates newcomer and Wildcard Peter Platell, who not only took home the Ultimate Sportsman and Ultimate Hobbyist awards, but also only missed out on knocking Matt off of his perch by
HALF A POINT!!! So terribly close. The sharks have certainly caught the taste of blood and are circling now, so I can't wait to see what 2012 brings to the field in the leadup to the next event.
All games were played in exceptional good spirits too, with the Ultimate Sportsman award actually being resolved from a 3 way tie! The judges were also supremely impressed by the army painting standards and the extra hobby effort that competitors put in this year - one of the parts that brings the most pleasure to the audience as a whole. Well done to all players for their work this year!

Like their 40K counterparts, the pressure was on to make the cut to take the field this year, and we once again had a solid turnout from our top 16 Warhammer players of the season. With a diverse field incorporating a lot of new blood for the Ultimates meat-grinder, the fight was on once more to crown a new Ultimate Warhammer champion!
And the winners this year were:
ULTIMATE WARHAMMER CHAMPION
YORDAN PETROVSKI (Chaos Daemons)
Runner-up - Scott Biss (Lizardmen)
Ultimate General:
1st place - Jarred Muller (Orcs & Goblins)
Runner-up - Tom White (Warriors of Chaos)
Ultimate Sportsman:
1st place - Hayden Falconer (Chaos Daemons)
Runner-up - Jim Howard (Beastmen)
Ultimate Painter:
1st place - Yordan Petrovski (Chaos Daemons)
Runner-up - Scott Biss (Lizardmen)
Ultimate Hobbyist:
1st place - Adam Simpson (High Elves)
After many years of failed bids for the championship, it was a great pleasure this time to see Yordan finally get there and shed the "bridesmaid's dress" that he has been adorned with in the past.

Another top performer this year worthy of special mention was Scott Biss, who finished a very close second and pulled exceptional scores across all categories as well. Congratulations to all the players involved!

Feat of Arms: Warmachine tournament results The WA Warmachine & Hordes community has grown to a very impressive size over the past 12 - 18 months, and this year at Feat of Arms featured a very special event for these players - our first WA 50 point Steamroller tournament! The Warlocks & Warcasters were out for blood with more backup than usual, and the forces battled it out for the big prizes throughout Saturday at the event.
And the winners were:
OVERALL WINNER
BEN LEEPER (Circle of Orboros)
2nd place - Aaron Griffith (Khador)
3rd place - Jason Robinson (Cryx)
Best Painted:
Luke Chapman (Cryx)
Well done to Simon Addicott for putting on a great show for this part of the event. Some players certainly felt the pressure of the game clock under the gruelling schedule, but overall the feedback for the tournament points size has been overwhelmingly positive. This was all a precursor to the big stuff to come however - as this event forms the first step in qualifying for the new upcoming 2012 Ultimate Warmachine tournament! It's gonna be a big year for Warmachine & Hordes fans indeed!

Feat of Arms: Malifaux tournament results We also had a great bunch of gamers come down to take part in our first ever Feat of Arms Malifaux event! Playing through a collection of unique scenarios featured almost exclusively at Gen Con Indy over in the US this year, the games raged on throughout Sunday to determine who would be the master of Malifaux for the weekend.
And the winners were:
OVERALL WINNER
JOHN METZAKIS (Neverborn)
2nd place - Gary Birch (Arcanists)
3rd place - Joel Marks (Guild)
A big thanks to all of the Malifaux players who came down, clearly enjoying themselves immensely in the chaotic - yet - casual atmosphere of the event. Well done to Liam Tennant (one of our trusty local Wyrd "Henchmen") for running a successful contest as well.
2011 Coat of Arms contest! Feat of Arms 2011 also featured our brand new Coat of Arms painting competition, allowing for the showcasing of talent across a wide range of different miniature ranges from different manufacturers. The creativity really came out in force and we had some pretty spectacular models to drool over!

Congratulations to all the place-getters, and a well done to our judging team who this year consisted of 3 very talented painters in the form of Adrian Chia, Ben Waters & Nick Small. The Coat of Arms painting contest will definitely be making a return in 2012, so there's no better time than now to start thinking about what you plan to paint & enter next year!
The all important thank-yous! A large number of people are definitely worthy of recognition this year for the assistance and support they put into Feat of Arms, so we would like to give a massive & sincere THANKS! to the following:

- And lastly but CERTAINLY not leastly,
